Two Executed in China for Vehicular and Knife Attacks

"China Executes Two for Deadly Vehicular and Knife Attacks"

China has executed two individuals convicted of carrying out two horrific attacks. The death sentences were carried out by Beijing after the two men were found guilty of separate incidents that occurred in the same week in November last year. The convicted individuals are 62-year-old Fan Weiqiu and 21-year-old Zhu Jiajin, according to a report by BBC Online.

The report stated that in November 2024, Fan Weiqiu drove his car into a group of people exercising outside a stadium, killing 35 people on the spot and injuring several others. This is considered one of the deadliest attacks on Chinese soil in decades. Just a few days later, Zhu Jiajin stabbed and killed eight people at his university in the eastern city of Wuxi, injuring another 17.

Authorities revealed that Fan Weiqiu carried out the vehicular attack due to dissatisfaction over a property settlement following his divorce. Meanwhile, Zhu carried out the stabbing attack after failing to earn a diploma due to poor exam results.

Fan Weiqiu was arrested at the scene of the attack on November 11. He had been attempting suicide at the time but was apprehended by the police. In December, he was convicted of “endangering public safety.” The judge described the method of the attack as extremely brutal and sentenced him to death. Less than a month later, his death sentence was carried out on Monday.

The other convict, Zhu Jiajin, confessed to all his crimes without hesitation. In his court testimony on November 16, he admitted to the charges. A day later, he was also sentenced to death. The judge described Zhu’s crime as “extremely severe.” Zhu’s death sentence was carried out on the same day as Fan’s.
