India objected to the 'Pakistan' inscription on the Champions Trophy jersey, upsetting the PCB. |
India will not participate in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, and there has been much controversy surrounding this. In the end, India has won the dispute. Although Pakistan is the host in the hybrid model of the Champions Trophy, India will play all its matches in the United Arab Emirates.
Now, another issue has arisen, and it has once again been caused by India. According to Indian media reports, the BCCI has refused to write Pakistan's name on India's Champions Trophy jersey. This news has angered Pakistan.
In global tournaments, the host country's name and year are written below the tournament's logo on all team jerseys. Even if the tournament is moved to another country for any reason, the host country's name remains. For example, in the 2021 T20 World Cup, even though it moved from India to the UAE, all teams played with jerseys that had "India 2021" written on them. This time, even though India is playing in the UAE, Pakistan is still the host country.
After the objection to the name "Pakistan" on India's jersey, the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) has accused BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) of mixing politics with cricket. A PCB official, speaking on condition of anonymity to Indian news agency IANS, expressed anger over India's behavior.
"BCCI has brought politics into cricket. This is not good for the game. They refused to tour Pakistan. They don’t want to send their captain to the opening ceremony. And now, they don’t want the host country’s name printed on the jersey. We believe the ICC will not allow this and will stand by Pakistan."
