Mbappe felt envy towards Messi; Neymar's explosive statement shook everything.
Neymar and Kylian Mbappé's partnership at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) initially brought great success. However, over the years, their relationship deteriorated. They stopped passing to each other, and even penalty-taking became a point of contention. This rivalry reportedly began after Lionel Messi joined PSG.
Neymar revealed that Mbappé was jealous of his strong bond with the Argentine forward.
Speaking on Brazilian football legend Romário's podcast, Neymar explained that the tense relationship among the three superstars prevented PSG from reaching their full potential.
When Mbappé joined PSG in 2017, Neymar had high praise for him. He said, "At first, we had a good relationship. I used to joke that he would become the best player one day. I always helped him, discussed things with him. He used to come to my house, and we had dinners together."
However, Neymar claims that after Messi arrived at PSG in 2021, Mbappé's behavior started to change.
He stated, "After Messi arrived, I think Mbappé became somewhat jealous. It seemed like he didn’t want to share me with anyone. That’s where the conflict began, and his attitude started to change."
Neymar further added that this "clash of egos" was the biggest obstacle to PSG's success.
"You cannot play alone. You need the support of others on the field. It’s great to be the best, but who will pass the ball? If no one runs or helps each other, winning becomes impossible."
In 2023, Neymar left PSG to join Saudi club Al-Hilal, but injuries have kept him out of most matches. As for his future, he remains uncertain.
He concluded, "I am happy here. But in six months, everything can change. "Let’s find out what happens next."
