Shortly after taking the oath of office as President, Donald Trump's executive order concerning birthright citizenship in the United States was temporarily halted by a court. Federal Judge John Kufner in Seattle, Washington, issued this order yesterday, Thursday, local time. Washington's Attorney General Nick Brown had filed the petition to suspend the executive order.

This marked a major legal obstacle to the executive order within a week of its signing. The court described Trump's executive order as "entirely unconstitutional." Judge John Kufner stated, "I have been on this bench for four decades, and I have never seen a case so clear."

Donald Trump was sworn in as President last Monday. Immediately afterward, he signed at least 100 executive orders, some of which directly opposed immigration. He blocked pathways for seeking political asylum in the U.S. and signed an order that sparked nationwide controversy. The order stated that children born in the U.S. to undocumented parents would not be granted U.S. citizenship. This executive order violated the U.S. Constitution. By Tuesday, lawsuits had been filed against it in at least 22 states.

Hearings on these cases took place in Washington, as well as in Arizona, Illinois, and Oregon. Regarding the termination of birthright citizenship, lawyers argued that neither the President nor federal agencies have the constitutional authority to impose such conditions.
