Bavuma shared a story about sitting on the toilet after getting out. |
South Africa registered a thrilling two-wicket win over Pakistan at Centurion. Chasing a target of 148, the Proteas were reduced to 99 for 8. Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jensen put on a brilliant partnership to take the team to victory, taking the team to the final of the 2023-25 Test Championship cycle.
Rabada-Jensen were the heroes of the end, but captain Temba Bavuma pulled the Proteas batting in the middle. He took the team that had lost 4 wickets to 96 runs at one stage with his great effort. However, after that, Bavuma's (40) strong innings ended with Mohammad Abbas's strike. Then suddenly, South Africa lost 3 more men before 100 in a storm. They faced defeat. After that, Rabada-Jensen showed heroism. After winning the match, he told the story of what Bavuma did in frustration after being out.
Bavuma said, "It's an emotional moment for me. Great advertisement for Test cricket. A joy, happiness and extremely exciting journey for our team. Happy that the result came in our favor. (During the lunch break) not much was said, I was still sitting on the toilet shaking with excitement. Aiden (Markram) was trying to keep the others positive. I just want to say, I still had the confidence to do it (to win the match). I came out (from the toilet) when 15 runs were needed. But I didn't come out completely openly yet. It was a tough one (emotionally).
On reaching the World Test Championship final, the Proteas captain said, "It's a big deal. Not just for myself, but for the team and the coach. The way we started against India and New Zealand with a relatively weak team and then the way we performed...not many people believed in us. We've come through a lot. We may not have played with the intensity but we found a way to get the results in our favour."
